True enough, this compass does not point north. It points to the thing you want most in this world.
Capt. Jack Sparrow
While I was on my flight to Palawan (from Manila), I thought of using my phone’s compass to check if we are heading to the right direction. I felt a bit worried when it showed the plane is going north. So I took out my other phone to confirm. I felt relieved after seeing the reading. I smiled thinking that my iPhone, being with me for quite a long time now, knows that place where I really long to be.

As we know, a compass is an instrument used for navigation (pointing north). It helps us tell in which direction we are heading to (or planning to go), particularly when cruising on waters or finding your way in the wilderness. So don’t you think we can consider a person’s heart as a compass? Because we aim for whatever our hearts’ desires and chase after them, no matter how narrow or thorny the path is. We even have a saying “hahamakin ang lahat, masunod ka lamang.” That’s why the bible warns us about this, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).
This treasure could be wealth, power, fame, ambitions, goals, or people important to us. And most of the time, the things we hold dearly in this world draw us away from God. We spend our time, energy and resources in order to achieve them. So if you are really serious about eternal life, and you don’t want to get lost on your way to heaven, better make sure that Jesus is your heart’s highest priority, our most important treasure. You must seek Him and follow His will. He promised that by doing so, everything you need will be added unto you (Matthew 6:33) and He will give you the longings of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
Direct your compass towards Jesus! You’ll see.
